How to refresh and repurpose your school blog content

Posted by Suzanne Willcock on Tue, Feb 27, 2018

A recent client meeting with some school marketers reminded me just how much of a challenge it can be for schools to constantly keep coming up with fresh, new and engaging content for an entire school year. The thing is, parents (a key audience for school marketers) are a lot like buses, there will be a new group along any minute! Okay, maybe the analogy is a bit simplistic, but my point is that every year, there will be a new group of families entering your school for the first time, or transitioning between years or between the primary and secondary school. For the most part, the experience is likely to be new for these families. But guess what, their informational needs, questions, interests and concerns are likely to be the same. Just ask a Registrar! Creating new content is the cornerstone for content marketing success, but it doesn’t mean you need to start from the ground up each year.

Here we show you how to refresh and repurpose your school blog content:

How to make free stuff work for your school with branded merchandise

Posted by Brock Ashton on Tue, Mar 21, 2017

Branded merchandise can be a double-edged sword; on one hand you have a promotional item that can easily generate brand awareness and on the other, you risk wasting funds on a product that doesn’t align with your school’s mission or the needs of your parent audience. So just how can you ensure your branded merchandise provides a solid return on investment?

I remember attending O-Week during my first year of university and being slightly overwhelmed with all the stalls set up by clubs and societies, local businesses and not-for-profit organisations. One of the stalls was manned by a mental health foundation who were distributing stress balls to students.

At the time I didn’t really think anything of it – it was just a little yellow ball with a company logo and a website URL. It wasn’t until my first exam period rolled around that I started to use the stress ball and it became an extension of my left hand while my right was busy working on study notes.

Is your school website working for or against you?

Posted by Laura Sheahan on Wed, Feb 15, 2017

We live in a world that demands instant gratification. Potential parents want service and information ‘yesterday’, and if we can’t meet their needs immediately, they can choose to look elsewhere. Never before have schools faced such competition in the pursuit of enrolments; where one click is all it takes for our prospective parents to choose the next best alternative. So is your school website working for you?

Advancement in technology has enabled a shift in power; consumers call the shots, yet many schools continue to operate with a ‘build it and they will come’ attitude; and their website design reflects this.

We surveyed the websites of Ireland’s top 18 private schools. The objective of the research was to identify where they performed well, where there was room for improvement, and what the overall user (prospective parent) experience was.
